Interactive crochet/knit sculpture

Hey all! Glad i found this tribe... it's cool to see there are so many other crochet/yarn/knit artists out there!

I wanted to let you all see what I've been working on, and to invite you to participate.

A Tree Undone is an interactive knit/crochet sculpture, bound for Burning Man 2007. Before the event, participants are invited to create and contribute crochet or knit leaves to be added to the tree. On the playa, participants will be invited to UNRAVEL a leaf! At the beginning of it's week on the playa, the tree will have THOUSANDS of crocheted and knitted leaves, and by the end it will only have strands of yarn hanging from the branches.

Please visit www.pokiedot.com for more about the project, and for crochet and knit leaf patterns.

If you happen to live in the Sf bay area, I'm hosting several leaf-making workshops, the first of which is on May 11. See the tree project's blog for more details: treeundone.livejournal.com/

The tree also has a google group: groups.google.com/group/tree-undone

My goodness, we're everywhere! X-posted, etc, etc.

Thanks for reading!

what is your tree base made out of?

(and how are you marking the lights so they don't get run over on the playa?)

the tree is, well, a tree! it is a discarded tree, donated from a tree removal service, but it will be altered. the bark will be sanded off and the tree will then be treated with a varnish or paint, so there's no potential for the bark to moop. my sculpture is part of the 'mangrove', that is, the forest of trees that will be around the man this year, which will all be lit not only by the man itself, but by lighting installed by burning man.
